Established by the Dubai Future Foundation, designed by Shaun Killa Design Architects and constructed by Buro Happold Engineering consultancy, the Dubai Museum of the Future was opened on 22 Feb 2022—a unique structure shaped like a human eye.

The Museum of the Future, which is 77 meters tall, and occupies an area of 30,548 m2, has won the Award of Excellence 2022 in the category of the best tall building under 100 meters from the Council of tall buildings and urban habitat (CTBUH).

The building structure:

The building portrays humanity, the green hill on which the building sits portrays the earth, and the void represents the unknown future.

Museum of the Future exterior

The Museum of the Future exterior, made of stainless steel, is adorned by three quotes by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum, vice president and prime minister of the UAE, using ancient Arabic calligraphy written by the Emirati artist Mattar Bin Lahej.

What are the quotes written on the Museum of the Future?

  • We won’t live for hundreds of years, but we can create something that will last for hundreds of years.
  • The future belongs to those who can imagine it, design it and execute it. The future does not wait; the future can be designed and built today.
  • The secret of the renewal of life, the development of civilization and the progress of humanity are, in one word: innovation.

Inside the Museum of the Future:

Besides being home to the headquarters for great Arab minds, the Museum of the Future is a gateway to the future and a journey to 2071. OSS Hope, Heal Institute, Al Waha (OASIS), Tomorrow Today, and future heroes are five stages of the journey.

The first journey begins with OSS Hope, a voyage to a space station 600 kilometers above the earth (level 5 of the building), during which visitors explore the space station, get inspired by space pioneers, and get a mesmerizing experience of life in space.

The next journey is the heal institution (level 4 of the building). Visitors will experience two sections: the wonders of nature-a digital Amazon rainforest, and the vault of life- a DNA library of over 2000 species.

The next journey is al Waha Oasis (level 3 of the building). Visitors are to revive their senses and disconnect from technology in a sanctuary from digital life beneath a dome of light and water.

The next journey is Tomorrow Today (level 2 of the building), focusing on technology where visitors can explore innovations that could change our world.
