Possibly the most unmissable part of the city, thanks to the titanic Burj Khalifa that rises from it, Downtown Dubai is one of the city’s most visited areas, not just in the UAE, but across the world. It’s not all about the Burj Khalifa and Dubai Mall though, there’s a lot of hidden gems to be found. All you need to know is where to look.

Overview

Downtown Dubai is quite literally the heart of the city. You can reach most parts of the city in 20 minutes by car. From old Dubai to the north, the beach to the west, the Marina to the south, and the desert to the east, from Downtown Dubai you’re never too far from anything else in Dubai.

Things to do

There’s just so much to do in Downtown Dubai, one article can hardly do it justice. You can’t miss the Dubai Fountain, however. There is a fantastic waterworks display, accompanied by music and lights that all come together for a spectacle to behold.

And then there’s the Dubai Mall’s Olympic-sized skating rink. Practice your skating skills in 2 hour sessions, or learn how to be one with the ice with the help of dedicated instructors.

Or start from the top, At The Top, the world’s highest outdoor sightseeing platform on the 124th floor of the Burj Khalifa. Of course, you’ll have to take the longest elevator ride in the world to get there.
If you prefer being at sea level, hang out with the denizens of the deep at the Dubai Aquarium and Underwater Zoo. There’s a 270-degree walk-through tunnel, where you’ll have to channel your inner Jacques Cousteau and brave a myriad of sharks and other fish gawking at you. The Underwater Zoo hosts a variety of critters from the world’s rainforests and oceans. It’s definitely worth a visit, and even more so if you have kids.

Dining

Take a culinary trip around the world at Kris Kros. The restaurant mixes culinary favorites with a fresh, modern touch to present you with delectable dishes.
If you’re hankering for Arabian cuisine, make your way to the Mezze House. It’s one of our favourite venues for Syrian, Palestinian, Jordanian and Lebanese dishes. The cozy indoors and an outdoor terrace are an added bonus.
Other Downtown classics include Thiptura, a waterfront Thai restaurant with a great view of the Dubai Fountains and amazing food, and At.mosphere is a fine dining venue located on the 122 floors of the Burj Khalifa with breathtaking views.
