Villas, Dubai’s equivalent of independent houses, offer privacy, space, and freedom, so it’s easy to see why they are such a popular alternative to apartments and condos. Scattered all across the city, from Mirdif to the Arabian Ranches, villas offer a unique sanctuary to those looking for luxurious spaces and independent households. Here are our favourite villa communities in Dubai:

1. Emirates Hills

A luxurious and premium gated community, Emirates Hills seems like it has risen out of a resplendent dream. Beautiful, well-maintained villas combined with tasteful landscaping easily make it one of the most scenic residential locations in the city. The properties are adjacent to the 18-hole Montgomerie Championship Golf Course. Its lush green expanse spill over into the Emirates Hills, adding to the community’s elegant charm. Emirates Hills is home to the creme de la creme expatriate community in Dubai; expect to see diplomats, politicians and celebrities throng the tree-laden pathways in the community. Palm trees line the roads and streets, giving the community a very Beverly Hills vibe. Despite its tranquil location, it is comfortably close to the Dubai Marina, Dubai Internet City and Dubai Media City.

2. The Residences, Barari

Hidden away just off of Sheikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Road road past Global Village, Al Barari is a luxurious haven. As you drive down the foliage-lined road that you discover what a green paradise it really is. Residential communities really don’t get prettier than this. A lush residential area, Al Barari is filled with villas set in their own landscaped paradise with infinity pools, water features, entertaining areas and rooftop terraces.

The Residences in Barari touts itself as a way of life rather than a simple place of residence. And with its fantastical offerings, few can argue with that. The 189 family homes range from 12,700 square feet to 16, 500 square feet. They are surrounded by six themed gardens, one lake, and extensive waterways and walkways. There are currently four kinds of villas in the Residences, Acacia, Bromellia, Dahlia and Camellia, each with their unique facets.

3. Arabian Ranches

Also located on Sheikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Road (past Global Village), the Arabian Ranches is a beautiful and quiet residential gated community. Having been around for a while, the Ranches are fully established and well developed. The sprawling villas complement the beauty of the emirate’s natural deserts, rather than trying to conquer them. Far away from the hectic energy of the city (but still easily accessible), time seems to slow down in the Ranches. The self-contained community has retail outlets, restaurants, cafes, schools, healthcare centres, bike trails, landscaped walkways, basketball courts, swimming pools and tennis courts.

4. The Springs, Meadows and Lakes

Ideal for those who enjoy suburban living, this community has easy access to a large number of international schools, nurseries, supermarkets and salons, and is a favourite amongst expat families. Villas here start from two-three bedrooms, and all have their own gardens. Some even have private pools. Barbecues and pool parties are a common sight when the weather is nice. A stroll will take you to the gorgeous lakes and parks that surround the area and if your idea of Dubai living involves walking down leafy streets lined with townhouses, you’ll be in your element here.
