Key Highlights:

  • Tourism in Dubai to reopen from 7th July
  • New regulations and restrictions to be imposed for the health and safety of travellers
  • Authorities looking for ways to raise awareness of reopening of Dubai tourism

It was recently announced by Dubai authorities that the emirate will be reopened for tourists from 7th July, albeit with some restrictions and strictly imposed guidelines. It is set to welcome travelers and tourists from across the globe for a short term stay. Their safety and optimal health will be ensured by following strict SOPs and protocols as directed by the World Health Organisation. For this, the authorities have also unveiled a new set of guidelines to mitigate the risk of further spread of the novel coronavirus, which was the basic reason why tourism activities were put on a halt in this destination.

The reopening of tourism in Dubai holds key importance in this region as it is one of the major driving factors of its economy. Director-General of Dubai’s Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing Mr Helal Almari expects tourism to resume in Dubai in a fast-paced way. In his statement, he stressed on the fact that tourism holds key to bringing back life to normal in the emirate. In a virtually held meeting with stakeholders, he expressed his views that more countries will reopen tourism in coming eight-to-ten weeks.

As per Mr Helal Almarri, the emirate is currently in the second phase. Once phase three will be implemented, tourism will be reopened completely in Dubai.

This announcement has come at a time when the UAE has been omitted from a list of countries deemed safe to travel. This list is announced by the European Union. According to Almarri, the coming weeks will see work being done in this regard. However, he states that visa rules aren’t changed. They are still the same as they were in pre-COVID times but tourists will be required to have medical insurance. Although it was planned in the past but implemented now as it has become the need of the hour. The concerned authorities are also evaluating options on how this facility can be arranged for tourists.

As per the new guidelines set by the authorities, it will be compulsory for every visitor to have undergone a PCR test at least four days prior to travelling. This facility will also be provided free of cost at Dubai Airports. In the case the tourist is COVID positive, they will have to be quarantined. All the cost associated with being quarantined will be borne by the traveler only.

Currently, the motive of the department is to look for means and methods to raise awareness related to the reopening of tourism in Emirates. Moreover, Dubai is also geared to enhance the route network worldwide. As part of this initiative, numerous Eastern European destinations have been added to its list by flyDubai, the government-owned airline in the UAE.
